Is it possible to run two tasks at once on a Mac? Specifically, can a background task behave in the same way that TSR's can on a DOS pc? This is my application: I write and adapt programs for severely handicapped students. Adapting 3rd party programs involves 2 things: 1. slow the program down so that a handicapped user, using an adaptive switch/es, is able to respond to the program 2. substitute switch input for keyboard or mouse input. (on a pc, I do this by popping up a tsr, which responds to an adaptive switch, and places the selected keystroke in the standard DOS keyboard buffer). I am, at this point, entirely ignorant about Macintosh programming. I've been asked to evaluate Macs for handicapped use. I'll appreciate any comments. Thanks.

As long as you are interested in Macs and handicapped users, are you aware that Apple has an office for special needs users? They have lots of info that you would probably find useful. Also, every Mac comes with something called 'easy access' to allow users who can't type, but who can use a mouth stick (or similar pointing stick) to get special key combinations that normally require two or more simultaneous keypresses (ie SHIFT-D, or CONTROL-C). Easy Access also allows the numeric keypad to serve as a 'mouse' emulator. Good luck with your project. -Shabtai Klein Minds, like | UUCP: uunet!pyramid!cdp!sklein parachutes, | Internet: cdp!sklein@arisia.xerox.com function only when | BitNet: cdp!sklein%labrea@stanford they are open | PhoneNet: (301) 270-2250
