What is the TRUE origin of the word 'posh'?
Hint: it was in use before acronyms were popular.
I will post the correct answer in a week.

My American Heritage Dictionary says "possibly an acronym for
'port out, starboard home,' with reference to accommodationson the shaddy and
hence expensive side of ships plying between England and India."

I contend that posh does not derive from any acronym.
I have posted my discussion in net.nlang, where it
more properly belongs at this point.
