[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Programming tools and utilities...

taylor@limbo.intuitive.com (Dave Taylor) (05/13/89)

One of the newest waves that seems to be hitting the Macintosh market
is the introduction of new and interesting programming tools to aid
in the development of Mac-style applications without having to crack
open Inside Macintosh.

There are two classes that I've seen so far;

   1. Interactive interface builders
"TView" for MacApp, from the MacApp Developers Association
	  "Prototyper" from SmethersBarnes
	  "AppMaker" from Bowers Development

   2. Programmatic toolkits
	  "MacApp" object-oriented Pascal toolkit
	  "MacWorkStation" (in a strange way)
"Megahaus Draw" from Megahaus Corporation (portable to PM and MS Windows!)
	  "MacExpress" from ALSoft
"Programmers Extender" from Invention Software Corp.

The question is:

Does anyone use any of these, and if so, what do you think of them?

I'd rather not step on the current discussion of MacApp going on, so if
you are going to reply to that, perhaps you can do so in that thread??

Also, I have heard rumours of other packages soon to be released, including one
that supposedly will help programs be portable to Mac, PC and X Windows...any
scoop on it, fellow net readers?

Discussion here on the net, please, rather than via email!

			Thanks for your input.
