[comp.sys.mac.programmer] TMON and games with sound: bad screen wobbling results. Why?

ra_robert@gsbacd.uchicago.edu (06/10/89)

This is something really weird, and though it might be a bit obscure, I'd
_really_ appreciate any info!

This is the scenario: I was checking out a game called "Let's get Tanked" and
broke into TMON using the FKEY they include. When the TMON screen came up, the
picture "bowed" (i.e. like when you first turn the monitor on: it bends in and
comes back to fill the screen). I figured my eyes were just getting tired.
Exit back to the game: same thing. Back to TMON. Now I'm getting seasick. :->

Worried that my monitor is going, I try various things. Finally, when I turn
off the sound in the game (using a game-provided menu) the problem stops. I
checked out another game with sound. Same thing: when I have the sound on in
the game (again using a game menu) the screen acts really weird when entering
and exiting TMON. Sound off: no problem.

Note, I'm not talking about the weird patterns you get when you run with more
then 1 bit. Rather, the whole screen image bends in and out.

Is my screen going bad? Or is it -- as I suspect -- some weird thing with
sound and TMON? Info MUCH appreciated.
