[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Looking for Mac C compiler recommendations.

geoff@pmafire.UUCP (Geoff Allen) (06/16/89)

I'm rather new to the NET, so please forgive any mistakes I make.

Here's my question:

I've got a Mac SE with 1 Mbyte RAM, 20 Mbyte hard disk, System 6.0.2, etc.
and I'm interested in learning to program it. I'm learning C for a new
job I'm taking on at work, so C seems like a good choice for home, too.
What is a good C complier for the Mac? A lot of people seem to use Think C.
I'm also aware of Aztec C. What would you more experienced Mac hackers
recommend for getting started and for using with my system?

Also, is Sesame C any good for a cheap way to get started? Are there any
other PD/Shareware compilers that are any good?

In a related matter, what is a good basic reference on Mac programming?
Do I need to buy all of Inside Macintosh? I'm familiar with programming
in general but not at all with the Mac Toolbox.

I realize that these are pretty basic questions, so please mail answers
to me rather than posting them.

Thanks for your help.

            my views.
