Well, it seems as if one cannot open a CD Rom with Desktop Manager installed. You get a message to the effect that "This disk is locked, cannot build the Desktop file". Annoying, but you can't say that Apple didn't tell us not to use the DM! Has anyone done any research into the problem -- e.g. is it the CD Rom driver (doubtful) or Desktop Manager, or.... I'd like to patch it to fix the problem (since DM works with locked floppys it ought to be possible to make it work with the CD Rom), but I would like to build from whatever anyone else has already found out. How do they make it work with Appleshare? Or do they? Marc Kaufman (kaufman@polya.stanford.edu)

The Desktop Manager has always worked for me, and I use my CD-ROM player daily. What version of DM are you using (which version Appleshare did you take it from?)? The older Appleshare 1.1 was not made for read-only devices, and this could be a problem. --Rick Ewing Apple Atlanta
