From: Jim Hofmann <hofmann@AMSAA.ARPA>
This is an excerpt from Lydia Lunch's interview with Pat Benatar in the new
issue of Spin. Whatchallthink?

**************************************************************************
SUBJECT: MTV Video Dreck.
PAT: I think its sinful for the artists to have to pay for the video
if they want complete control, because the record companies are the
ones that profit from it anyway.
LYDIA (inserted comments): SO WHY DO IT, OTHER THAN TO SELL RECORDS?
PAT (continued): For those that like that sort of thing, I think it's
great.
LYDIA: I THINK IT'S SINFUL TO FILLUP PEOPLE'S EMPTY LIVES WITH STUPID WASTES
OF TIME, BUT THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT: FILLING THE VOID THEY CREATE SO THEY
CAN LOVE YOU FOR BEING EVERYTHING THEY ARE NOT.
PAT (cont.): You're making it for the rest of America, and the rest of
America likes them.
LYDIA: BECAUSE THE REST OF AMERICA LOVES WASTING ITS TIME ON ALL THINGS
BORING AND STUPID AND PREFABRICATED, AND WHAT BETTER WAY THAN VIDEO?
PAT: I love middle America ... those old women. they're so rich. They
know cooking and cleaning and raising kids, and I love them...etc.etc.

Is that how anyone else out there feels about videos? I don't really
see too many of them but it seems to make sense. Oh by the way,
Lydia has never "done" any videos. She has, however, written a couple
of books and is finishing up her autobiography. Anybody know any of her
music? I understand she worked with Henry Rollins of BLACK FLAG for a while.
