We know that 7.0 will allow VM to access 14 Mbytes under 24-bit addressing. We also know that the Plus and the SE cannot use VM because they do not have a PMMU. My question is: Are Plus and SE owners forever doomed to have no more than 4 Mbytes of memory? Or, alternatively, will the new OS allow them to use the new 4 Mbyte high density SIMMs, allowing them 14 Mbytes under 24 bit and 16 Mbytes under 32 bit addressing? It would be too bad if they are an evolutionary dead end and are totally limited to 4 Mbytes.

Also the reason that the plus & the SE can't do virtual memory is because the 68000 can't do virtual memory {no flames please for weird solutions, any resonable 68000 system can't do it}. >an evolutionary dead end and are totally limited to 4 Mbytes. I wouldn't call them dead yet, but I think they might be up for retirement. The 68000 is missing a lot of the key features in the new 020, 030, & 040 :-) that will be required to take advantage of newer and hopefully better software. That is of couse assuming that RISC chips don't take over the world :-) Hope this helps. -- \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\|///////////////////////////////////////// David M. Even if the Plus and SE are "forever doomed" to 4MB max, is there really any need (in the reasonably near future) for any more than that? Face it, if you're going to be a power user, you probably have something more than a Plus or an SE anyhow. The not-so-intense computer users will have these and will probably not require more than 4MB, and most will be more than happy with less than that. Jeff
