Frank,

I tried to send mail but it didn't work.  You may have misunderstood
how we solved the modem problem.  The GTE phone was hardwired at both
ends between the handset and the base.  We bought a cord with
jacks at both ends from a Phone Center store ( Radio Shack also sells
them).  Then, we cut the jack off of one end of the new cord. We
opened the base and substituted the new cord wires for those that were
previously hardwired.  The only catch is that Bell doesn't color code
their wires where GTE does.  You have to use a meter to ensure that
the proper wires are substituted.  hope that helps.   ricki
