The mouse sold by Radio Shack is designed for use with their joystick port. Each joystick (2 max) connects to 2 A/D converters with 6 bit resolution. This means that you can only reach one of 64 positions in each direction. This would be all right if only the cursor location did not stop as one of the limits is reached. If the cursor wrapped around to the other side, things would be fine. Unfortunately, the lack of wrap-around limits the mouse to its 4.5 by 4.5 inch cage. So it goes. Rolling the mouse around adjusts potentiometers in the mouse that are just like those in an analog joystick. the good news is that you can make it work on an Apple as a joystick by the simple expedient of two trace-cuts and two 0.002 uf capacitors (and cut off that silly DIN connector.
