I am skimming through the new edition of the XINU book* for the Mac, and wondered if anyone has tried it out? The book doesn't say much about the C compiler they used. I'm about ready to order the disk, but I need to know what kind of C tools I need. I have Lightspeed Pascal and like their setup for development and debugging, but the book implies that a more conventional (UNIX-like) tools are required. So if anyone has tried it, send your opinions and I'll collect them. If enough people are interested, I'll post a summary. Thanks. Dave Newkirk, att!ihlpm!dcn *Operating System Design - Volume I: The XINU Approach, by Douglas Comer and Steven Munson, 1989. XINU is a UNIX-like (but not look-alike) operating system written almost entirely in C, in a simple, layered design so that it can be taught effectively in graduate CS classes. It's also an inexpensive way to get a lot a UNIX functionality without buying AUX. Even though XINU isn't a commercially supported product, it sounds like a nice system to tinker with - dcn.
