For programs that have hidden windows available in the Windows menu, I like to use this interface, inspired by the Style menu in FullWrite Professional: The frontmost window has a check next to it, other visible windows have hyphens next to them, and hidden windows have no mark. Choosing the checked (frontmost) window from the menu hides the window; choosing any other window from the menu makes the window visible and brings it to the front. I used this interface on a Mac program for another company and received the best possible response: everyone used the Windows menu, but no one gave it a second thought. --Stuart A.
