[comp.sys.mac.programmer] How do I open the serial ports ?

anderss@uplog.se (Anders Sjolund) (08/29/89)

What is the official, Apple-sponsored way of opening a serial port ?
I am trying to write a MPW tool (in MPW C 3.0) that downloads text files over
the modem port. I've tried opening both by doing RAMSDOpen() and OpenDriver(
"\p.AOut") with various results. Everything seems to work OK, the data shows up
on the modem port, xon/xoff flow control works, BUT when I try to download with
our Shiva NetModem active, the program bombs. What am I doing wrong, that all
serial-port-using applications written in the dark ages are doing right ?
(No, I don't initialize AppleTalk in my tool, but I don't think that terminal
emulators from 1985 do that either...)

Try opening "\p.AIn" as well, if you want to read...

Just a thought. Happy hacking !
