[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Changing application icon

gary@sun.mcs.clarkson.edu (Gary Levin) (09/21/89)

A follow-up on changing the icon for an application.

(1) You can only change Desktop from ResEdit if you are running Finder;
MultiFinder has the file marked busy. (Desktop is invisible to Find
File and Finder, but shows up in ResEdit fine.)

(2) You need to clear the ICN# and the Version entry (empty entry
consisting of the name of the Creator).

(3) It will then recognize the new icon.

Does anyone have an idea on how to

(1) Get the path to a CFile as a string? This could be used to open
files in the same directory using fopen.

or

(2) Set the default directory for fopen. There must be a global
variable that indicates where files should be opened. fopen sets the
directory and volume information to 0, so something else must
determine the actual values. Any guesses as to the names of these
globals? You can get the directory and volume information from a
CFile, so that is not a problem.
