[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Styled dialogs without color + RE: root dirID

hoppmain@doc.ic.ac.uk (Hope Plus Maintenance) (10/16/89)

Question: I'm using System 6.0.2 on a Mac Plus, can I persuade
the Dialog Manager to use styled textedit? I've tried putting
in the appropriate 'dctb' etc. resources with colour info left
default/not-specified and just specified the text style/font
but nothing happens. Any ideas?

Answer: In "Re: ggetting the full pathname" it was questioned
whether the root dirID was DEFINED to be 2... see IM-IV file
manager chapter - where it defines this to be true. Interesting
though is that if you use 'PBGetCatInfo' on a volume it returns
a dirID of 1 if the volume is MFS (2 for HFS), but if you
try it out on a MFS file it returns a parent dirID of 2...
Is this documented anywhere?
