First, is there such a thing in UseNetLand as a Mac Programming Electronic Newsletter? If there is, tell where to sign up and and I'll keep quiet and you won't have to read any further. If there isn't, I'd like to start one. Why do we need a newsletter when we have this newsgroup? The newsletter would not merely be a rehash of news articles, and it would not merely be another forum for them. The selections in the newsletter would be much lengthier and go into much more detail than the typical news article. And they would be directed toward covering a topic rather than answering a single technical question. (That topic wouldn't even necessarily have to be a technical topic - I envision editorials on the current state of the user interface and where it's going.) So, this would be the rough equivalent, for UseNet, of MacTutor. Why do we need another MacTutor? Well, for one thing, this would be free to anybody brave enough to ask me to put them on the subscription list. It would feature code samples (maybe even short binaries) in machine readable form; kermit is a lot cheaper than floppies by U.S. Mail. It would be eminently simple to mail the author of an article for specific clarifications or even help (!). And, finally, I imagine it would come out more often than MacTutor -- too many long articles would choke some mailers, so I would have to distribute relatively small issues or send them in parts. If anyone is interested in this idea (or has info about who's already doing it), mail me at... -- | GurgleKat (Pete Gontier), pete@cavevax.ucsb.edu | .UUCP reply addresses bounce; try another path. | ...if you'd gone to Dartmouth, you'd not have had to take the math.
