[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Guidelines for use of color in User Interfaces

pwp@shamash.cdc.com ( HOUFAC) (11/10/89)

Someone asked here recently about guidelines for the use of color. (Can't
find the article...)

Other than the skimpy information in Apple's Desktop Interface book, I've
found two other references:

  * "Designing the User Interface, Strategies for Effective Human-Computer
    Interaction", Ben Shneiderman, Addison-Wesley, 1987.

  * "Using Computer Color Effectively", Wanda Smith, Prentice-Hall, 1989.

I own the Shneiderman book. The information on color in it is pretty
skimpy, too.

I've never seen the Smith book. (Although I intended to look for it.)
I found it as a reference in the bibliography of "X Window Systems Programming
and Applications with Xt", Douglas A. Young, Prentice-Hall, 1989.
