Sorry if this has been touched on before but does any one know how to extract a 'snd' resource from an application? I want to create sound resources with MacRecorder and use them in other applications, as well as transferring them over the net to others for use.

You can extract "snd " resources from any file with SoundEdit that comes with MacRecorder. Just click the "resource" button in the Open dialog and all files with resources will show. A PD or shareware program called Sound Leech will also do this and will then convert the resource to a data file if need be. Some uses of sound require that sounds be a resource (like System beeps), others require data format (like SoundMaster). The easiest way to convert is use SoundEdit and Save As... Note that when saving sounds as resources, you can save any number of sounds in a single file. Instead of storing all these sounds in your System, you can open this file with Suitcase II. All sounds will then be available as beep sounds in the Control Panel, or to any program that looks for sounds in the System. HyperCard is another story - it wants the sounds in a special format ("type 2") and installed in HC itself, in the Home stack, or in the stack you are using the sounds in. SoundEdit automatically saves the sound resource in the "correct" resource format when you Save As... into HC stuff. -Russ
