I've been playing around with resources from many programs (to fix "bugs") and have written a C program (in Think C) which (in short) replaces default color palettes in Canvas and Persuasion with a Genigraphics Color Palette (along with some STR# resources), so that non-ResEdit gurus can enjoy the benefits (PICTs can be cut/pasted from PowerPoint, Persuasion, and Canvas and maintain a standard color palette). My reason for posting here is that I, like others, have mucked with other program's resources (to let OnCue work with Boomerang, etc) and though, "Gee, maybe having a program that would allow "programmers" (or ResEdit hackers) to deliver their patches in a way that would allow the average Joe (Sue?) to add or delete the changes by running a program, might be of interest to the community at large. I'm willing to enhance my program, so that anyone using ResEdit could specify via STR strings a set of old/new resources, patch the core binary, and have a vehicle for delivering an application which would update (enhance) other applications, and post is to comp.binaries.mac. I would appreciate feedback (to att!garage!dfh) from anyone who in particular thinks this WOULD be of intererest (or flames from anyone else who may have already done it [if so, please attach program to the flame]); David Hoerl AT&T Bell Laboratories
