[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Writing a desk accessory in Think C

Does anybody have experience writing a desk accessory program in Think
C?  I'm a neophyte to the Macintosh, and thought it would be fun to try
writing a screen saver that could be started/timed via the Control
Panel.  The Think C manual constantly refers to the volumes of _Inside
Macintosh_.  Do I need to obtain this book?  How much does it cost?
