I was playing around with ResEdit 1.2 on an Adobe screen font file of the
Times family of fonts. I am trying to rename the bold, italic, and bold-italic
styles so that they do not show up on the FONT menu of certain applications.
I'm duplicated the font/da mover file of the font family, I using 'get info' I
changed the FOND names from B Times, I Times, and BI Times to .B Times, .I
Times, and .BI Times. I then changes the names of the corresponding 0-point
FONT resource.
Once I moved the 'new' fonts into the system file, everything looked good. The
style names were absent from the FONT menu. So I tried it. For some reason
plain 12 point Times looked really awful, while its bold, italic, and
bold-italic conterparts looked fine. When I opened the font/da mover Times
file I discovered that the resource for plain Times 12 point containded 0
bytes. When I opened the original file, plain Times 12 point had about 4k. It
looks like simply changing the resource names somehow ended up wiping out the
plain 12 point resource.
I trashed the file and performed the same procedure. Again plain Times
12-point was empty. What gives? Does anyone have any idea what's going on
here?
