[net.micro] C compiler for Apple DOS 3.3

brat@gatech.UUCP (09/27/83)

What does anyone know about a C compiler for the Apple II computer
that runs not under CP/M but under DOS 3.3? I know about an AZTEC
compiler, but none others. The reason I'm asking is that I have some
friends who are planning to write one. Any information is appreciated.

I've had an Aztec DOS system for a couple of weeks, and I only have one major
flame against it. The documentation and configuration program claim to support
external terminals, but the system does not. What the system does do is accept
my full description of what my terminal is like, then hang when the configur-
ation program completes. The driver code does a jsr to somewhere in the C800's!
That's i/o control space according to Apple. It doesn't even read the same
value twice at that location.
When I read that code, I was embarrased for the hacker who wrote it.
However, the source code is provided, along with tools for adding new drivers.
So I was able to write my own. I may even add interrupt driven routines for
my terminal and modem. The Aztec system seems to be a very cooperative one
for customizing, and for squeezing memory space and performance from an Apple.
