[net.micro] Query on S100 Unix

mts@utcsrgv.UUCP (Martin Stanley) (10/05/83)

I would like to hear from anyone who has managed to get Unix
running on an S100 system at all resembling mine:

Compupro box, 8085/8088 CPU, 256K static ram,
	System Support board, Interfacer 4,
	Tandon 5 1/4"(5 Meg) winnie,
	2 - 8" Qume floppies with Disk 1 controller.

I realize that I will probably need a new CPU (I suppose, a 68K), and
possibly more memory. Also, I have yet to purchase the disk controller
for the winnie. What I would like to do is to avoid having to scrap
any of the other boards - it appears that if I go the Dual route (if
this is even possible), I will have to purchase a new I/O board,
another clock, a special Eprom board, not to mention the CPU and disk
controller.

I hope there is another way. Any ideas?

Does Compupro have Unix available for their 16032 board? Is the
16032 board actually shipping? I'm pretty sure their ads that
show the board mention Unix.

I have had several phone conversations with the folks at Godbout
Electronics, and they are still not shipping the 16032 board. As of
about 3 weeks ago, they had just submitted new artwork to their PC-card
manufacturers. My guess based on this info is that nobody will see
their 16032 board until early 1984 at the earliest. I truly vexes me
that they've been advertising the availability of that board for 8
months now. If you add the 3 months for lead time to advertise in
magazines like Byte, they've had ads for almost a year now. How come
these turkeys aren't subject to the same `overhanging the market' law
suits that IBM has had to wade through on occasion?
