FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SYMANTEC EXPANDS OBJECT-ORIENTED SUPPORT
IN NEW VERSION OF THINK PASCAL

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- March 5, 1990 -- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC)
today announced THINK Pascal* Version 3.0, which includes Symantec's THINK
Class Library and support for MacApp(r) (the class library from Apple Computer,
Inc.). A unique class browser has also been added to THINK Pascal Version
3.0. These new features enable THINK Pascal to provide users with the most
comprehensive support for object-oriented programming (OOP) of any Pascal
environment for the Macintosh available today.

"As a leader in the Macintosh language market, we recognize the demand for a
product that eases the transition to object-oriented programming," said
Gordon E. Eubanks, Jr., president and CEO. "THINK Pascal's sophisticated
class library and tools such as the class browser are critical to making OOP
more accessible to programmers."

Features Support OOP
THINK Pascal (formerly called THINK's Lightspeed Pascal) includes the THINK
Class Library, which provides code for all the standard Macintosh user
interface components and behaviors, such as windows and scrolling,
eliminating the need for developers to recreate code. Symantec is the only
vendor that provides a comprehensive solution to object-oriented programming
for both the Pascal and C (THINK C*) languages, so programmers in either
language can reap the benefits of object-oriented programming.

The unique class browser included in THINK Pascal Version 3.0 enables
programmers to examine and edit classes and more easily navigate through a
large object-oriented program. In addition, debugging capabilities have been
enhanced to work more efficiently with object-oriented code.

Apple's MacApp provides an even broader library of objects for developing
bulletproof applications. "It's a winning combination: THINK Pascal's ease
of use and rapid turnaround times and MacApp(r)'s second-generation
object-oriented framework," said Larry Tesler, Apple Computer, Inc.'s Vice
President of Advanced Technology. Tesler, who led the design teams for
Object Pascal and MacApp, added that "Macintosh software developers can now
create applications with unprecedented ease and speed. My group is already
using the product to improve productivity."

With THINK Pascal Version 3.0, programmers have a choice between procedural
programming and OOP. The enhancements in Version 3.0 assist developers in
moving from procedural programming to OOP.

THINK Pascal Version 3.0 also provides improved resource editing, including
stand-alone resource tools licensed from Apple (Rez, DeRez and PostRez).
Better segmentation control has been added, along with Projector awareness,
improved compatibility with Apple's Macintosh Programmer's Workshop*, and the
ability to handle larger source files. The menu structure has been
reorganized in THINK Pascal Version 3.0 to take advantage of standard
Macintosh conventions. A new "Arrange" command allows programmers to select
window layout, and a more flexible Step command offers additional debugging
options.

THINK Pascal is used at all levels in the Macintosh programming community.
It provides superior-quality code generation and has been used to develop
many commercial Macintosh applications, including SoftView's MacInTax;
Timeslips III, by North Edge; NuEquation's NuPaint; Serius89, by Serius; and
Ceres Software's Inspiration 2.0. THINK Pascal is an educational programming
standard at major universities, including Harvard, the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, and Stanford University.

THINK Pascal Version 3.0 runs on a Macintosh Plus, SE, SE/30, Portable, II,
IIx, IIcx, and IIci with one megabyte of RAM. A hard disk and two megabytes
of RAM are required for the THINK Class Library, and four megabytes are
required for MacApp.

Pricing and Availability
THINK Pascal Version 3.0 is available now. The suggested retail price is
$249. Registered users can upgrade to Version 3.0 for $69 and can contact
Symantec's Customer Service department regarding upgrades (800-441-7234
outside Calif.; 800-626-8847 inside Calif.). MacApp is available from Apple
Computer, Inc. at 800-282-2732.

Symantec is a leading international software company which provides
award-winning application and system software products for IBM PC and Apple
Macintosh computer users. Founded in 1982, Symantec is a public company
traded on the NASDAQ National Market System (SYMC). The company is based in
