[comp.sys.mac.programmer] The Mac as a development platform

marmar@mtk.UUCP (Mark Martino) (03/21/90)

For a while I was doing application development for the Mac. It was
great. MPW provided all the tools I needed and I was one happy
programmer.

Now I'm working for a printer company and we use all sorts of processors
with all kinds of emulators. None of these emulators or their software
run on a Mac.

I am bummed.

We're currently using the 32CG16 from National Semiconductor and a good
little processor it is. I just wish the emulator plugged into my cx
instead of only clones. I've called around on this particular processor and
I couldn't find any other emulators.

If Apple is going after the technical market, why don't they start in
their own backyard, as it were, electronic development? Even if the
market may be relatively small, it would go a long way toward finally
convincing other engineers that the Mac is a real, complete computer.
I'm already convinced, but the guy who pays my salary is not; not by a
long shot.

Granted, this may be an esoteric quest in this case, but I
think Apple should court the major manufacturers of other processors
besides the 68K family, as much as I like it and all.

If I could get an emulator and development software that ran on my cx, I
could kiss the clone world goodbye and look real efficient in my boss's
eyes. Please, Apple, or somebody, help me.
