[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Localizing for really goofy calendars

asl2@tank.uchicago.edu (Aaron "Fish" Lav) (04/15/90)

I was just wondering if the OS could be relocalized to support other calendars,
such as the French Revolutionary calendar, which begins on September 22, 1792,
has 12 months and some days not belonging to any month, 10-day weeks, and
...I think that's it. There are also names for each day, but that would be
optional.
(The reason I ask is that I want, for no particular reason, to convert my life
over to this system, but even currently, can't tell the date without checking
the Alarm Clock DA :-).)
If there's useful documentation/utilities for relocalizing systems, I'd
appreciate pointers/ideas. (Or if Apple has plans to support this calendar,
I'll just wait :-).)
(The Jewish calendar would be another "interesting" project. 13 lunar months/
year, with additional months inserted at specific years to resync it with
the solar calendar ....)
