In my personal opinion, hub rings are a necessity.
Unless you perfectly allign your diskettes every
time you insert them,  the hub area tend to wear
significantly.  And hub rings are real cheap, too.
All good quality diskettes have them, and if yours
don't you can get them for just a few cents each.

As for disk drive head cleaners, almost everyone I
have spoken to is very much against them.  They
cause abnormal wear on the heads and really aren't
useful unless your heads get real dirty.  And, if
they are that dirty, the disk drive probably needs
to get overhauled anyway.
