Sorry to be ambigous, what I was looking for was how to use the data fork of
the application which I am developing.  I see from one reply that PBGetFCB...
is used, but how is data parsed and such? If it is all wihtin IM I can get hold
of a set.

Get hold of a set. Programming the Mac is nearly impossible without it, 
IMHO.

As for parsing the data, that's your problem (read: opportunity). You can 
put anything into the data fork that you like, in any format you please. 
Only the resource fork has an enforced format.
