From article <6133@helios.ee.lbl.gov>, by beard@ux1.lbl.gov (Patrick C Beard):

I strongly recommend Bertrand Meyer's "Object Oriented Software
Construction," Prentice-Hall 1988. It's the clearest motivation and
introduction to object concepts I've seen.

He happens to use his Eiffel language for all examples, but the concepts
are clear and useful independent of the language.

ISC (Meyer's company) recently announced Eiffel for A/UX 2.0, at a price of
$995 for the complete environment, which is considerable. A MacOS version
is planned for next year sometime, but no ship date is announced.

See comp.lang.eiffel for more.

(My only connection with Meyer or ISC is as a very satisfied reader of
the above-mentioned book.)
