By the way, they told her they're bringing out an add-in ROM this Fall that will contain a spreadsheet package and a database manager, which makes it quite a bit more useful. scott preece ihnp4!uiucdcs!uicsl!preece

From: Richard P. Wilkes <RICK@mit-mc> I am looking for a source for the NEC PC-8201A lap computer. The *only* place that I have seen it advertised (other than by NEC itself) is in the Sharper Image Catalog. I am beginning to wonder whether the thing is even being shipped yet. The first articles I remember seeing were in August; the release date was supposedly mid-Sept. Anyone have any information? For those of you who haven't heard about this computer, it is very similar to the Radio Shack Model 100. It has an 8x40 LCD display, battery powered (4 AAs), and weighs about 3 pounds. RS232 and parallel, cassette, and bar code reader ports. Full ASCII keyboard and weighs 3 lbs. The R.S. has a built in 300 bps modem (direct connect or acoustic attachments) and a max 32K RAM. The NEC has a max 64K internal ram and 32K external ram packs. I plan to use it for text preparation while I'm away from my MAX80, and upload the results through the RS-232 port. -Rick at MIT-MC
