[net.micro] ? Serial Port boards with 4, 6, or 8 ports

Cargo.PD%hi-multics@sri-unix.UUCP (11/02/83)

Is anybody out there using the s-100 serial port boards with 4, 6, or 8
ports? In BYTE I have seen boards with 4 ports (e.g. CCS271001), 6 ports
(e.g. CCS2830), and 8 ports (e.g. SSM io8, SDS i/o-8, CompuPro
Interfacer 3). Has anybody in netland had any experience with them?
Does anybody know which are software programmable, etc. Most of them
seem to be in the $75/port range (though SSM io8 is $56.25/port). I am
mainly interested in reliability, ease of use, and features. I need at
least 4 ports, and could use 8 if I worked at it. (My current leanings
are to get a CCS271001, 4 port serial. It is about $70/port -- exclusive
of shipping, etc. When I wanted another 4 ports I could just buy another
one. It has the lowest entry-level cost of any alternatives I have found
so far.)

Responses to me will be summarized (if they are not content-free). Mail
