[comp.sys.mac.programmer] hacks in Mac OS so nasty apps still work

yost@esquire.UUCP (David A. Yost) (08/28/90)

I've heard and read many times that Mac OS,
particluarly Multifinder, and now the 24 GC
firmware are burdened with a considerable
amount of special case code to pander to some
major apps that do nasty things.

Is there a hidden "no-hacks" button somewhere
that one can click to turn off all the hacks,
so one could test one's app if one wanted to
try to play by the rules?

I hope so. In fact, I hope Apple is setting
deadlines for when each hack will be removed,
so there is some constant cleaning process
in place.

Would anyone who knows about these things
care to comment?
