I've read the new version of technote 259, including its description of the encoding of Quickdraw (old-model) colors. This has led me to wonder if Quickdraw and Color Quickdraw can cope with other 9-bit encodings. For instance, if I were to use a value of yellow with the low 2 bits reversed, would it be displayed as white in monochrome but still as yellow on the Imagewriter II or color display? I would not be surprised if Color Quickdraw were only looking for the exact values of the old-model colors when it is asked to deal with them, especially since Apple has never suggested that any other encodings would produce well-defined results. Still, given that my use of color is usually minor (and my current machine is still 68000-based, giving me no other choice), this could be useful. -- John Bruner Center for Supercomputing R&D, University of Illinois bruner@csrd.uiuc.edu (217) 244-4476
