[net.micro] Wanted: Reviews of LOGO implementations

nbb@packet.UUCP (Nelson Bolyard) (11/03/83)

I am looking to buy the LOGO language to teach my son (now 3 yrs old) some
object-oriented thinking (any programming he learns along the way is a side
benefit). I presently own a 64k Z-80 based CP/M system, with a terminal and
SSSD 8" drives (IBM std fmt). I am not aware of any LOGO implementations
for generic CP/M - due (I think) to the fact that LOGO is a very graphics
oriented language and most generic CP/M programs assume only a dumb terminal
as a console.

So I am prepared to buy a cheap (less that $200) computer to run LOGO. The
August 1982 issue of BYTE mag was all about LOGO. At that time LOGO was
available for the TI 99/4A, the Apple II, and the TRS COCO
(the last being just announced). Is it now available for other machines?

ANYONE WITH ANY EXPERIENCE or RECOMMENDATIONS on ANY VERSION OF LOGO, *PLEASE*
MAIL your reviews to me. Please give specific about bugs, exceptionally good
features, etc. Also, I understand that SMALLTALK is good as an extension of
LOGO; that is, Smalltalk picks up where LOGO leaves off, Smalltalk might be
good for those who have mastered LOGO and are ready for bigger and better...
Obviously, a machine that can run both LOGO and Smalltalk would be optimal.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
