I am a programmer more interested in the pascal/modula family than C. Is there anyone out there like me? This seems the province of the C men.
ml27192@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (10/08/90)
I use TML's Pascal and ahve liked it, but as I get more and more into object-oriented stuff I am looking into C++. I like Object Pascal because it's much more elegant, but C++ is where the power is. I wouldn't use TML Pascal II 3 for MacApp. I'm trying, but it needs to be kludged to recognize it. So does MacApp to recognize TML. So if you go to objects, use Apple's Pascal, Think C, or Apple C++.

Don't curse yourself C if you don't have to. Modula-2 is a wonderful programming language, an improvement on Pascal by Niklaus Wirth, Pascal's creator. p1 Modula-2 is available from: MacApp Developers Association (MADA) P.O. Box 23 Everett, WA 98206 [206] 252-6946 Apple Programmers and Developer's Association (APDA) 20525 Mariani Avenue Cupertino, CA 95014 I plan to purchase p1 Modula-2, but otherwise have no association with these folks. It looks like an excellent product- see the latest APDAlog for more information. Lyle D. I just got mail from Symantec. TML is discontinuing its Pascal.
Symantec is offering to the lastest version of THINK Pascal for $99 to
owners of TML pascal. (I think this price is about the same as you
can buy it from one of the mail order stores). THINK Pascal 3.0
supports MacApp 2.0 (4MB of memory recommended!) plus all the goodies
like integrated symbolic debugging, class browser, THINK class
library....
Also, it is supposed to support Projector!
I have not decided whether to upgrade yet as I am doing more C++ stuff
these days.

Dear David - I can assure you that Think Pascal 3.0 does not support Projector(TM), though it is no longer Projector hostile (ie. it does not munge Projector resources any longer!). Also, we are offering a deal to TML Pascal II customers. They can purchase MPW Object Pascal 3.1 for 50% off - $75.00 - and SADE 1.1 for 50% off - $37.50 - and purchase the MPW Development Environment 3.1 Update for the standard price of $35.00 that is offered to people that have purchased the Development Environment from Apple. If you are a registered TML Pascal II customer, you will receiving a mailing about this offer. If you are not, you should request the information a copy of the mailing from APDA at 1-800-282-APDA. -- Jordan Mattson UUCP: jordan@apple.apple.com Apple Computer, Inc. I just got the same letter, but will not upgrade. I'm going for C++ instead.

As one of the authors of THINK Pascal, I can assure you that not only does THINK Pascal 3.0 not munge Projector(tm) resources, it also honors their settings, so a file which is checked out read-only from a Projector project, you will not be able to modify it in the THINK Pascal environment. Also, Symantec is offering a similar upgrade deal for registered TML Pascal owners; we're sending a mailing out to all registered TML Pascal users with an upgrade form and cover letter. I ordered the MPW upgrade (which was even cheaper than if I bought it with E.T.O. which I would like to do someday). Dear Rich - I phrased things wrong...what I meant to say, when I said, "does not support Projector(TM)..", is that you do not have Projector running under Think Pascal yet...an event that I am looking forward to.
