[net.trivia] Where did "Quincy" originate?

I will all but swear to it that Quincy was indeed and NBC
Misery Theater thing, but it was not introduced in the first
season MT was on.  I believe it came in a year or two later,
and might have replaced "McMillian and Wife,"  or "McCloud,"
neither of which were very popular (I don't think).  Seems
to be a strong anti-Irish sentiment, huh?

Better yet, what is Quincy's first name? He (Jack Klugman) said on
Merv Griffin that the character has one, and it appeared in a very
early episode...anyone know it??

Quincy was indeed one of the four rotating elements
in the 1976-77 edition of "The NBC Sunday Mystery Movie" -
the others being Columbo, McCloud, and McMillan. It proved
so popular during the fall of 1976, however, that after
the first of the year it moved to Friday nights as a weekly
series. Its first telecast as a Sunday Mystery Movie was
October 3, 1976.

Quincy was not part of the NBC Mystery Movie series.  It postdates it by
at least four or five years.  You may be confused because it is shown in
reruns at night with several Mystery Theatre veterans, such as MacMillan
& Wife, Banacek, Columbo, and McCloud.
