[comp.sys.mac.programmer] LaserWriter without AppleTalk active

chh2@hera.uucp (27411-Cliff Halevi(1508)) (11/02/90)

Does anybody know of a way to "Choose" LaserWriter without Appletalk being
active. As it is now, it won't allow that to occur.

I'm not on an AppleTalk network so in order to print to a PostScript
printer I have to create a PostScript file, upload it to my UNIX network,
and let UNIX send it to an available PostScript printer. The problem, is
that in order to create a PostScript file I have to choose the LaserWriter
driver, but since my serial ports are connected to non-AppleTalk devices
I'm not allowed to select LaserWriter. It's like a catch-22, since if I
WAS on an AppleTalk network I probably wouldn't be going through this "save
as PostScript/upload to UNIX" rigamaroll anyway!!

Thanks,

Cliff Halevi

I do this myself. All you have to do is select the LaserWriter in the
Chooser. It will tell you that AppleTalk will be active. Click Ok.
Then Shut off AppleTalk. It will tell you to disconnect from the
network. Click Ok. Then close the Chooser. When you print, it will
still print with the LaserWriter driver. Just be sure to print to a
disk file.
