From: Ron Natalie <ron@brl-vgr> OFFICIAL INFO-MICRO NOTICE: The following is policy decided upon for the INFO-MICRO mailing list and does not necessarily have any correlation with other DDN policies or other lists. There have been several messages about how appropriate of some items are that have appeared on the list. I have therefore established some policies for this list. I am going to require that these policies be followed on the DDN INFO-MICRO list. I am also going to request that participants in the USENET net.micro also follow these so that we can keep the instantaneous crossfeed between these lists going without putting a man in the loop to censor USENET submissions. USENET submissions have coincidentally been obeying these policies, so it won't be any great shakeup there. WHAT CAN BE SENT OVER INFO-MICRO: 1. The traditional question/answer discussion about MICRO computers, details of experiences with various products and suppliers, and calls for information are the heart of the list. This also includes bug reports and rumor distribution. 2. Short announcements of new products including a description of the product, availability date, and approximate price. 3. One time, personal "FOR SALE" notices. However, I would not like to see the list deluged with these. WHAT CAN NOT BE SENT OVER INFO-MICRO: 1. Solicitations for business that is either of a commercial nature. This includes individuals who are selling items repetitively. For example: "I have a single terminal stand, $35" would probably be OK but "I will sell terminals stands to anyone who wants one for $35 each" is not. 2. Items from companies that encourage transaction of business over DDN. 3. Illegal Activities. Items that are part of an illegal activity including requests for pirate copies of software will not be tolerated. 4. No used cars will be sold on this list. CONCLUSION: These guidelines are fairly obvious and most people are already complying with them. If anyone has questions regarding the traffic or administration of any list, the first place to ask is the "-REQUEST" address. Do not flame on the list about the nature of one of the messages until after you have attempted to communicate with the list administrator. Thank You.
