My first call for information financial succeses and failures of
shareware resulted in as many requests to forward any responses I got
as reponses themselves. Thus I have decided to issue the :
SECOND CALL FOR SHAREWARE SUCCESS/FAILURE STORIES
Send me your stories of Rags to Riches or Rags to Dirtier Rags as the
case may have been. I will post a summary of what I recieve. Please
indicate if I may repost verbatim text from your answers and if you
would like your name and email address be included in a list of
contacts for first time shareware authors that I will include with the
posting.
The data I think would be particulary interesting include:
1) Yearly earnings.
2) Distribution of earnings over time.
3) Pricing, how you went about choosing it and
how you think it affected the software's success.
4) The "come-on" line in the about box (I will try to
correlate different styles with success)
Please also send any surprises or interesting situations you encountered
along the way.
So stay tuned... I'll try repost by the end of next week.
