The following is an excerpt of a letter received from ...decvax!utzoo!watmath!watbun!ebarnold If anyone can help, mail directly to him, but keep the letters SHORT! The machine "watbun" is a Honeywell DPS-8 running GCOS, and the mail system on that machine allows only about 1500 characters per letter, including headers. Thanks (Richard Bartels -- Waterloo Computer Graphics Laboratory) ----- I have just extended my stock in microcomputer stuff by acquiring a Radio Shack MC-10 (otherwise known as the Micro Color Computer). It is on a level very similar to the Timex 1000/Sinclair ZX-81 that I have had for some time, yet is significantly different in a number of ways. The most obvious (a good use of this word here!) is that it displays a color image on my TV. It also seems to be quite a bit faster in its numerical operations, perhaps in part due to its 6803 processor, which has 8x8 multiply instructions, and in its manipulation of the display, which is moderately fast even though it has more to specify than the T/S device. It must use a video chip for the display. It also has a BASIC that permits a number of clever constructions, which I appreciate, and it uses ASCII as opposed to some private code, which is nice, particularly since it has what is called an RS-232C serial port, which I can think of lots of uses for. Unfortunately its documentation about its internal structure is MUCH poorer than the T/S machine: they don't tell me anything about how to use the port, or even access it, and the Basic doesn't seem to have a machine-language sr call, making it hard to explore some of these things. It does have PEEK & POKE, but NO information on anything. Ergo, the Question: Do you guys know anyone else with one of these who knows anything, or know of any reviews or articles on it that might say something? I'd be quite happy to trade info & discuss problems with anyone interested. It seems like a nice package if it can be used for more than being an excuse for buying RS software.

#R:watcgl:-108400:uicsl:7000034:000:403 uicsl!riber Nov 18 09:01:00 1983 The R/S COLOR COMPUTER magazines, such as Rainbow, Color Computer Magazine, Hot Coco, and ETC., have had a lot of articles on the MC-10. You might want to check out the magazine stands to see if any of these magazines have anything that would interest you. Although these magazines are aimed at the coco machine, they share user interest. good luck Rick Berry pur-ee!uiucdcs!uicsl!riber
