I am looking for a DBMS that will run on a micro and will be suitable for retrievals from a 30,000-40,000 record DB. There will be no insertion or deletion after initialization, just retrieval. The application just requires two entities and the types of queries will be limited. The other major specifications are: (1) handles a videodisc (in particular a PIONEER 4200). (2) allows calls to external code. (3) supports interface building. (4) runs on a MAC (although IBM is acceptable). I've considered plain Hypercard because of the built-in videodisc support but I doubt that it would be efficient enought.. I've been told of a commercial product that consists of a set of XCMD's that allow you to implement a relational database but I don't know anything more about that. I've heard that ORACLE for the MAC has a hypercard interface, and I am leaning towards this solution. Does anyone have an opinion about: a) any of the above options Does anyone know of any specialized image management relational DBMS that happen to do exactly the above. Finally, Fourth Dimension has a separate product which provides the glue for external function calls. Does anyone have experience with this produce. It isn't cheap. Thanks in advance, Mike .
