Everybody knows by now that there is an interim Inside Mac Vol VI chapter floating around, which describes the new Sound Manager in System 6.0.7 and later. I have now come across no less than *three* different versions of this chapter, available from various sources: * the one available on AppleLink (and maybe other sources, I don't know). The date in the document footer is September 20th 1990. * the one on the "develop" issue 4 CD-ROM, just dated "September 1990". * and the one on the System 7.0b1 CD-ROM, dated "October 1990". After some quick comparisons, I have come to the conclusion that the most up-to-date of the three is the first one. This is part of a package that also includes the Compatibility chapter, and MPW interface and library files. Of the three, it looks like the 7.0b1 CD version is the earliest (in spite of being dated October!). The first two are very similar, except the "develop" one doesn't have any description of AIFF files. In general, that whole set of Inside Mac VI print images on the 7.0b1 CD looks very hastily assembled; I've already found two sections missing, and there are probably others. I guess I should be grateful I've got it at all...
