TI has a speech synthesizer for the 99/4a. It costs around $100. If, however, you buy 6 TI cartridges for the 99/4a between a couple of months ago and ( I think ) January, TI will give you one free. You need your original sales receipt along with the booklet that comes with the cartridge. Forms can be had at your local toy store that sells TI software. I just bought my sixth cartridge for my 99/4a so I will tell you if TI honors their offer. I would like to thank the people that told me that 99'er magazine was still in business, I found ( their last! ) copy of the latest issue on the newstands yesterday. 'Seems that TI stuff is being bought up faster than a Chicago politician can talk! As long as I am on the subject, I was talking to a friend of mine that keeps his fingers on the pulse of the micro business and so I got my ears full of the latest rumors about the 99. Perhaps someone that is knows some inside poop will share their insight with us ..... (1) Six vendors are currently negotiating with TI for the right to produce their software. This includes their old stuff along with some new stuff as well. (2) Another vendor is negotiating with them for the hardware sales. This includes the repair of existing 99s and peripherals along with whatever new stuff gets offered. (3) Not really a rumor, but my friend told me that ATARI was going to offer TI compatible versions of their games. The next day I saw both Pacman and Donkey Kong for the 99 with ATARI's name on it! All this makes me believe that the last will not be heard of the 99 for years to come. I hate to say it, but I told you so......... Chuck Young at ....ihnp4!ihuxi!cjy
