[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Specifying a Port

fnwlr1@acad3.alaska.edu (RUTHERFORD WALTER L) (12/30/90)

I have an internal modem in a Mac II which brings up a dialog box forcing
you to choose the internal modem or the modem port when you try to use the
communications software (White Knight, Red Ryder, MicroPhone, etc...). The
problem comes if you EVER choose the modem port (this is necessary sometimes
because there is a label printer attached to the modem port which I would
like to use occasionally). If after using the label printer I try to use
the comm program I am not given the choice of ports again - I must restart
the computer. I have looked through IM at everything I could find on port
selection (and even the slot manager stuff), but haven't found what I need
to allow selection of the internal modem again without restarting the Mac.
I tried a simple program which appears to have done absolutely nothing.
Probably just as well - I may have read just enough to be dangerous.
Any suggestions out there? How about possible explanations for what the
software/hardware combination is actually doing? Thanx WLR
