How compatible is the Columbia PC with the IBM PC? I would appreciate a comparison between the Columbia and the IBM machines. What will the Columbia not run that the IBM will, etc. Thank you Jay

[From the virtual flamethrower of ZBEN] We have had a loaner Columbia PC for a few months now, and have had some problems getting Kermit and other communications software running. I talked to the programmer here who was doing this, trying to pick his brain for something to post, but he wouldn't state specifics, instead pointing me at the article: "Technical Aspects of IBM PC Compatability" on page 247 of the November 1983 Byte Magazine. Interestingly enough, this article was written by five guys from Columbia Data Systems! They claim to be highly compatable, but this article may give you somewhere to start... We also had a Columbia loner in which we tried to get Kermit running on. There were some initial problems but they were eventually straightened out. The latest version was sent to Daphne Tzoar (cc.daphne@columbia-20) for her to include in the next release. -- Jim Knutson ARPA: knutson@ut-ngp UUCP: {ihnp4,seismo,kpno,ctvax}!ut-sally!ut-ngp!knutson
