[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Software and hardware alternatives

mvg@pnet51.orb.mn.org (Mitchell Gossman) (01/04/91)

I'm about to sink a pretty good chunk of change into some computer hardware
and software. I'd like as many opinions as I can get!

1. Any opinions about the Mac si? All I really need is a single nubus slot,
and speed is not super critical.

2. I need eight bit color with at least 19" monitor. It must be flicker-free,
and the higher the resolution, the better. Any opinions on good deals, but
not so good that I'd get a piece of junk? How about Seiko, Radius, Mirror,
SuperMac?

3. I want to invest in a macro package. Which is better - Quickeys 2.0 or
TEmpo II?

4. I need a grammar analysis package. What is best in your opinion -
MacProof, Grammatik Mac, Correct Grammar? MacWorld thinks highly of Correct
Grammar.

5. I need a better mouse. I'm intrigued by MousePen by Appoint, and UnMouse
by Microtouch. I'll be checking them out for myself soon, but any experience
with them? The UnMouse touch screen thing seems like a good idea, but is it
user-friendly?

Thanks for the help. And now, some unsolicited testimonials.

1. DeltaGraph is outstanding for graphing.
2. Remember? DA (shareware) is mandatory. First shareware item for which I've
paid the author.
3. WhiteKnight is the best com package I've seen for the Mac.
4. Think C 4.0 is the only programming package to buy (but Think Pascal is
close).
