[comp.sys.mac.programmer] Porting Unix software

jxf@altair.cis.ksu.edu (Jerry Frain) (01/05/91)

I've been doing a lot of porting of Unix software to my Mac lately
(using THINK C 4.x), and I've run into quite a few compatibility
problems -- not surprisingly, of course.

The people at Symantec did a good job of providing ANSI support, and
some limited Unix compatibility, but there are still a lot of problems
when attempting to port Unix-based software.

I have managed to scrape together a few ports of Unix library routines,
and a couple of rewrites of Unix system calls for the Mac.

What I'm wondering, is if anyone else out there has any ported library
routines, system calls, etc. for use under MacOS? I'm attempting to
build a nice little library that will provide as much compatibility as
is possible when compiling Unix source on my Mac, and I'd really hate
to write it all myself (though I will if I have to).

I am of course willing to swap, trade, beg, grovel, share my results, and
post a summary of anything that I find out.

Thanks much in advance,

  --Jerry
