[comp.sys.mac.programmer] MacIntalk

kw1r+@andrew.cmu.edu (Kevin Whitley) (12/07/88)

I've been playing around a bit with Macintalk in Lightspeed C. I've written an
application that speaks, using SpeechOn, SpeechOff, Reader and MacinTalk calls,
but I'd like to be able to set things like the voice pitch, sex, and
particularly language. I've also heard rumours about problems if the Macintalk
file isn't in the System Folder...

Could someone please fill in the details? I will write a simple application
(and post the source) using every feature that someone tells me about (and that
I can make work), and works around all the bugs that purportedly exist.

What happened to Macintalk anyway? I've still got the sys file,
but no way to interface to it from MPW C. Any ideas?

Hi folks. I need a version of Macintalk that (1) allows me to
interrupt it in the middle of speaking (2) allows me to use it from
Think C. I would call Apple, but I don't know how free and easy they
would be with the news. I'm working with Chris Weyand, if you've read
his postings. Is it a matter of changing a few hooks? Do I need to
get a developer's license (money money money)? Should I go back to
Vic 20 programming? Hope to hear from people soon.

(p.s. If you know any good public domain speech packages (with source
code) that have these features, could you tell me? Thanks again)

Dear friends:

Does anyone know how to use Think Pascal 3.0 together with MacinTalk? In the
engineering class I teach we have project tournaments (MIT style) and we always
use a Mac ci to keep score. This time I would like to have the Mac "announce"
the next contestant.

In a related matter, I like to use 'snd ' resources to snazz up the
scorekeeping
program. I have used up my supply and would like to get some fresh ones.
Is there
anything like "clip art" for 'snd ' resources? Can soundmaster files be
converted
to 'snd ' resources (legally)?

thanks,

dph

Pobably somewhat how they did it. Apple warns folks not to use MacIntalk because
they never procured the source code and can't upgrade it to use the better capabilities
in the new systems. If you can write a better "MouseTalk," the whole of MacWorld
will beat a path to your door.

Gopherit.
