[net.micro] FinalWord

THOMPSON%usc-eclc@sri-unix.UUCP (11/26/83)

From: mark thompson <THOMPSON@usc-eclc>

I have FinalWord running on my Rainbow, and am trying to make it
as much like Emacs as possible, so that my reflexes dont hurt me
when editing. I notice that the designers have put in two 'prefix'
characters (one of which seems locked into 'escape'). I can make
the other one ^X but i cant seem to bind any commands to the
second prefix.
Does anyone have a clue as to how this is done, or is this part
of something not completely implemented? Since most of the list
probably doesnt care at all about this, please reply just to me.
Thanks.

You know, I kind of have the same problem. My Freedom 100 terminal has all
these lovely, lovely function keys, but every doggon one of them gives out
the characters ^A,(something unique for that key),CR.

Now that's nice and consistent and all -- but do you KNOW what Ctrl-A does
in BASIC? Yeah, repeats the last command. Guaranteed to bring you down
in a hurry. Any suggestions on how to trap those character sequences
emitted by a Freedom 100 control key in Microsoft BASIC, weed out the
Ctrl-A, and use the rest? (I don't know how to burn PROMS either, and
don't particularly want to replace chips in the terminal unless someone
has a good reason why.)

Thanks in advance,

I wasn't quite sure whether you wanted t|o trap characters from youer terminal
to your Morrow or to the ARPANET ISID. I can show you how to trap characters
from your workstation to the ISID effectively crea|ting a mainframe
program that will tranlates what you transmit and then sends it
on to the program your are running on the ISIB. This uses PCL on the DEC 20.

Interested, drop me a message.
