Well, I think that XLib and Xview are more complicated to program (at least for
certain types of program) than their predecessor SunView.
On the other hand, programming the Mac is now easier using MacApp.

And, I agree that with both, still far too much work is needed by the
application programmer to do things that should be taken care of by
the operating system and/or development package.

But, for many types of applications, I still find there's less work to
do to get the program up and running using XView and Xlib. I'm sorry
to say that in a mac group, but that's how I find it. I tend to mainly
write graphics applications, and if you are heavily into text, sound
or whatever else, your mileage may vary.
